No, they are BPA- and Phthalate-free.
We are passionate animal lovers and will never test on animals. We only test on humans!
All the ingredients in our body washes and lip balms are safe and “food grade” when used in the proper amounts and dilutions. We test all prototype products on ourselves, our loved ones and other willing volunteers. It’s fun. If the new product does not pass our tough standards it does not make it to the marketplace.
All Baobab products are gluten-free, and they do not contain any common allergens such as gluten, corn, soy or nuts. If you have an allergic reaction to one of our products, then it is possible that you are sensitive to one of the essential oils that are in our products, such as peppermint oil.
Our Coconut Oils are produced and bottled in nut-free facilities with equipment that is used exclusively for our Coconut Oils. Botanically speaking, coconut is not a nut; it is a fruit. While allergic reactions to coconut have been documented, most people who are allergic to tree nuts can safely eat coconut. If you are allergic to tree nuts, talk to your allergist before adding coconut to your diet.
Our products do not contain any animal ingredients. Our body washes are 100% vegan.
Our lip balms do contain beeswax, which is produced by bees. We haven’t been able to find an organic, plant-based alternative to beeswax that has all the amazing natural properties of beeswax. We’re still looking!
Yes, Baobab products are rich in antioxidants, including vitamin E. Açai, olive oil, coconut oil, rosemary – and of course, baobab – are excellent sources of antioxidants. We also use tocopherol, Vitamin E naturally derived from sunflowers, for preservation.
Absolutely not. Our body washes contain only pure castile soap, enhanced with organic guar gum to give it a silky smooth texture. The high-foaming lather of our soaps comes from their high coconut oil content, which creates a more luxurious and richer lather than any detergent could ever produce.
Using a castile soap is your guarantee that what you are using is a genuinely ecological and simple soap – not a complex blend of detergents with a higher ecological impact due to the waste stream created during manufacturing and the detergents’ slower biodegradability. Unfortunately, many synthetic detergent blends are deceptively labeled as “Liquid Soap” despite the fact that they contain absolutely no real soap whatsoever.
You certainly don’t need a PhD in chemistry to understand our ingredients, and all our products are biodegradable. We use ingredients that you find in a garden, not in a laboratory.
We are committed to using ingredients that are as close to nature as possible, and all of our products are Certified Organic. Read our labels and you will not see any petroleum derived ingredients, sodium lauryl sulphate, synthetic dyes, fragrances, parabens, detergents, carcinogens or anything harmful or controversial.
Yes! All our products are made with at least 95% organic ingredients. We are proud to be Certified Organic by Oregon Tilth.
In general, we recommend using Baobab body washes and lip balms within two years of manufacture. Soaps and lip balms are self-preserving, but because our products are biodegradable, it’s best to not leave them on the shelf for too long, as they may start to lose strength. Please check the packaging to see the expiry date.
Pregnant or nursing moms should always check with their doctors. Baobab uses only the highest quality natural and USDA Certified Organic ingredients. No chemicals or chemical derivatives are used, and the essential oils used are in low percentages, therefore moderate use should be safe for all. As with all new products, it is best to do a skin patch test to test for possible allergic reactions.
Absolutely! Baobab products are safe to use with even very small children. The cool minty-ness of the body wash may be a bit too powerful for some children, while others will absolutely love it.
When using a new product, it is best to do a skin patch test to test for any skin allergies before using the product fully. To do this, apply a small amount of the product you are testing to the inside of your elbow or any other sensitive area. Cover it with a band-aid, and leave it overnight. In the morning check for signs of irritation or other skin sensitIvity. If you have any questions please check with your doctor.
Baobab products are completely natural and are safe to use anywhere on your body. Please use your own discretion and common sense, and don’t put products in your eyes or where the sun don’t shine.
Our body wash makes an excellent foot wash, thanks to the disinfectant qualities of the tea tree and the tingly cool menthol feeling. It’s also great for shaving, and as a handwash, or even for washing clothes.
Our lip balms are not just for lips! They also work great for healing peeling cuticles, moisturizing noses dried out by the wind, or soothing sunburned ears.

The baobab is a prehistoric tree, found mainly in Africa, that has existed for over 200 million years. The baobab is known as the “Tree of Life” as it provides food, water, shelter and more to humans and to all types of animals. Baobab trees can grow for up to 5,000 years and reach up to 25 metres high and 50 metres in circumference.
For centuries, people across Africa have been using the oil from the seeds of the baobab fruit to hydrate and protect their skin. Baobab oil moisturizes and rejuvenates the skin, is high in antioxidants, and contains anti-inflammatory omega fatty acids. People in western countries are only just becoming aware of the powers of this superfruit.
